2NE1 (Korean: 투 애니원; pronounced “to anyone”[1] or “twenty-one”[2]) is a South Korean girl group created by YG Entertainment. First appearing in a Cyon commercial campaign with Big Bang for LG Telecom, their debut single “Fire” was released on May 6, 2009

History

The group was first mentioned by the press in late 2008, when rumours were spreading that YG was creating a female version of Big Bang named Sista. In response to those rumours, YG Entertainment President Yang Hyun Suk stated that the name was not chosen yet. In January 2009, it was announced that the “Female Big Bang” would debut around July 2009 with three members — CL, Minzy, and Bom. Later that month, YG stated that Sandara Park joined the group, with one more member to follow. In the end, YG Entertainment announced that the group would consist of four members and debut sometime in May 2009. The company stated that the group had trained for 4 years, and that their debut album would contain songs produced by Teddy Park. The group’s name was initially announced as “21″; however, due to the discovery of a singer with the same name, the group was quickly renamed “2NE1″, which stands for “New Evolution of the 21st Century” (“NE” meaning “New Evolution” and “21” standing for the “21st Century”).

2NE1′s Park Bom revealed that the group was originally planned by YG Entertainment to be a 3-member group with herself, Koo Hye Sun, and Sandara Park.

Merlin arrives at the city of Camelot, where the king, Uther Pendragon, has outlawed magic and imprisoned the last dragon. Merlin, who was born with extraordinary magical powers, is taken as the apprentice of Gaius. Merlin later discovers, after being informed by the last dragon, who is held as a prisoner deep under the city, that he has an important destiny in protecting Uther’s arrogant son, Arthur, so that he may grow up to found a great kingdom.

The era in which the series is set is ambiguous; traditionally the Arthurian legends are set in the dark ages, and the idea of King Uther reigning over a small kingdom (which is present in both traditional legend and the television series) sets it before the union of England in 927. Despite this, the castle interiors are 15th century,[citation needed] making the series’ setting inconsistent with English history. Britain is never mentioned, although the dragon has used the name Albion, which is the oldest known name for Great Britain.

The television series deviates significantly from more traditional versions of the legend, such as those written by Geoffrey of Monmouth, T.H. White, and Thomas Malory. For instance, in the original myth, it is Arthur who builds Camelot, whereas in this series it pre-dates Arthur’s father Uther. Another key difference is that in the television series, Arthur and Merlin are of approximately the same age, whereas in traditional myth, Merlin is much older, and acts as Arthur’s tutor. This kind of relationship is played out between Gaius and Merlin. Morgana, normally shown as an evil sorceress, is here a kind and caring woman, albeit one with a secret. Excalibur is an ordinary sword that becomes enchanted by the Great Dragon.

Other characters from Arthurian legend have appeared. Lancelot was portrayed as a commoner who longed to become a knight. Mordred has been shown as a young Druid boy who formed a bond with Morgana (in some legends Mordred’s mother) and who was prophesied by the Great Dragon to be the cause of death of Arthur (in the legend this occurred at the Battle of Camlann). Mordred and the Great Dragon referred to Merlin by his Druidic name, Emrys (the Welsh form of Ambrosius; Ambrosius Aurelianus was a historical figure whom Geoffrey of Monmouth partially merged with Merlin[citation needed]). Geoffrey of Monmouth himself has appeared as the court genealogist.

They have scored three consecutive #1 hit singles: “Tell Me”, “So Hot”, and “Nobody”. In 2008, they won two Daesangs (“Artist of the Year” Awards).

2009: International tour and American debut
The Wonder Girls tour started on February 28, 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Wonder Girls, along with mentor JYP, then held concerts in the United States, visiting Los Angeles on March 5, La Mirada on March 6, and New York City on March 8. They also performed for a small crowd at MTV Iggy on March 10. The group then returned to South Korea, holding concerts in late March in Seoul and Pusan. After the end of the tour, the Wonder Girls debuted a music video for “Now”, a cover of Fin.K.L’s single from their third album. Created for a commercial for LG, a version featuring only the dance was released online on April 9, 2009.

Wonder Girls started their official MySpace Music account. The page confirmed that the group would launch in the United States with the official release of an English version of “Nobody” sometime this summer.

In June 2009, JYP Entertainment announced that the Wonder Girls would be joining the Jonas Brothers on the North American leg of the Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009. The company also announced that “Nobody” would be the first English single, followed by “Tell Me”, and that an English album would be forthcoming. It was later revealed that in order to concentrate on their American debut, both So-hee and Sun-mi dropped out of high school as it was not possible to attend while in the United States.

The Wonder Girls released an English version of their single “Nobody” on June 26, 2009, just one day before the start of their tour with the Jonas Brothers.

The Wonder Girls were intially signed on for 13 concert dates across the US, but due to unexpected circumstances during one of the concerts and the Girls’ witty handling of the situation (they taught the ‘Nobody’ dance, unscripted and unrehearsed, in English to use up time), they were given the opportunity to join the Jonas Brothers for a total of 45 concert dates.

The series follows the epic journey of a young woods guide named Richard Cypher (played by Craig Horner), a mysterious woman named Kahlan Amnell (played by Bridget Regan), and a wizard named Zeddicus Zu’l Zorander (played by Bruce Spence) to stop Darken Rahl (played by Craig Parker) from unleashing an ancient and terrifying power.

It has been renewed for a second season, that will begin airing November 7 2009.

The story takes place in the world author Terry Goodkind created in his The Sword of Truth fantasy novel series. The three main provinces are Westland, the Midlands and D’Hara. Westland is separated from the Midlands by a magical boundary, which was created to prevent any magic from entering Westland. On the other side of the Midlands is D’Hara, which is ruled by Darken Rahl. The Confessors oversee the welfare of the people of the Midlands.

The first 22 episodes, are loosely tied to the first book of The Sword of Truth series Wizard’s First Rule. Some of the stories feature events and characters not encountered in the books, while other loosely adapt events from the book. The story begins after the invasion of Darken Rahl’s army into the Midlands. Kahlan Amnell (Bridget Regan), a Confessor, ventures into Westland in search of a wizard and the Seeker, who has been prophesied to defeat Rahl. Kahlan finds the wizard, Zeddicus Zu’l Zorander (Bruce Spence), and the Seeker, Richard Cypher (Craig Horner), who is forced to accept his destiny. Together, they set off on a journey to seek out Rahl and his minions.
